Our Roof Cleaning Methods

At Cleanit4u.uk, we use safe, surface-appropriate roof cleaning methods based on the roof type, condition, and level of contamination. Every roof is assessed before work begins to ensure the correct approach is used.

Manual Moss Removal

Where required, moss is carefully removed by hand using specialist tools designed to protect roof tiles. This controlled method allows us to remove heavy moss growth without damaging tiles or forcing water beneath them.

Softwashing Treatments

Following moss removal, a professional softwash treatment can be applied to kill remaining spores of moss, algae, and lichen. This helps prevent rapid regrowth and keeps the roof cleaner for longer, while remaining gentle on roof materials.

Low-Pressure Roof Washing

In suitable cases, we may use low-pressure washing to rinse and clean roof surfaces. This method uses carefully controlled pressure levels that are significantly lower than standard pressure washing, helping to remove surface dirt and organic growth without damaging the roof or membranes.

Low-pressure washing is only used where appropriate and never at aggressive pressures that could compromise the roof.

Hot Water / Steam Roof Cleaning

For certain roofs, we offer hot water or steam cleaning, which is an effective and environmentally responsible way to remove moss, algae, lichen, and staining.

Hot water and steam cleaning works by applying low-pressure water heated typically between 60°C and 90°C, which:

• Breaks down organic growth naturally

• Kills spores without harsh chemicals

• Reduces the need for biocides

• Is gentle on roof surfaces when applied correctly

This method is particularly effective on delicate roof materials and where a chemical-free approach is preferred.

We never use extreme pressure on roofs, and all hot water or steam cleaning is carried out at controlled temperatures and pressures suitable for the specific roof type.
